On a large post-war estate, rats can pass between gardens, garages and bin areas without anyone noticing. We trace the route and deal with it.
Large post-war estates are made up of long runs of gardens, garages, footpaths and green strips, and rats use all of them. They follow fences and hedge lines, sheltering under sheds and decking before moving to the next property. Because every house has a similar layout, the same weak points repeat: gaps beside the back door, loose airbricks, and drain covers that no longer sit properly.
We survey the home and garden, look at bin areas and boundaries, and choose baiting or trapping to suit. If it seems the activity is estate-wide, we will say so and suggest the next step, which might be speaking to neighbours or the housing provider. A free pest prevention survey comes with all treatments, and charges are fixed.
They may, since rats move between gardens along fences and under sheds. Tidying your garden, securing bins and checking gaps now makes your home less attractive, and we can advise on this during a survey.
If you rent, check your tenancy agreement or contact the landlord, especially for work to the building. We can survey and give you a clear written explanation of what we have found to pass on.
Rats come for food, water and shelter. Accessible waste, open drains, bird feed and gaps in buildings can all draw them in.

On a post-war estate, pigeons find the flat roofs, balconies and walkway ledges. Making those spots unusable is what actually moves them on.
Read the advice →Post-war houses were not built with mice in mind, and they have plenty of small openings round pipes and extensions. Finding them is half the battle.
