Post-war estate roofs can hold squirrels for months before anyone notices. We find the entry point, deal with the animals and advise on keeping them out.
The Broxtowe estate in north-west Nottingham is a large area of post-war housing, built in similar styles and ages. That means similar weak spots: tired fascia boards, ageing soffit vents and worn verge details at the gable ends. If one house has a squirrel problem, nearby homes of the same age often share the same vulnerabilities. Sound from the loft is generally the first clue, mostly in the first hour of daylight.
We carry out a survey of the roof and loft, looking for the way in and for damage to timber, insulation and cables. Treatment follows, carried out lawfully, along with advice on proofing and on how to reduce food that attracts squirrels, such as bird feeders. We are fully insured and our staff are CRB checked.
It can encourage them into the garden, and a squirrel that knows the garden may investigate the house. Moving or protecting feeders is a sensible step alongside repairs to the roof.
It is worth doing. Homes of a similar age often have similar weak spots. Listen for early morning noise and look for chewed timber or insulation. We are happy to survey if you are unsure.
Yes. They can chew timber, insulation and cables, and cable damage can be a fire risk.

On a post-war estate, pigeons find the flat roofs, balconies and walkway ledges. Making those spots unusable is what actually moves them on.
