Large areas of post-war housing, often with fitted carpets and built-in cupboards, give moth larvae steady shelter. We find where they feed and treat it.
Post-war family homes tend to have wall-to-wall carpets, airing cupboards and fitted wardrobes, all of which suit carpet and clothes moths. On the Broxtowe estate a typical case is a spare bedroom used for storage, with a pile of winter clothes on the floor and a carpet that has not been lifted. Larvae feed quietly and the first sign is often a patch of thin pile.
We identify the moth and then look under furniture, along skirting boards and inside cupboards. Treatment is applied to the carpets and soft furnishings affected, and we explain how to deal with clothes and bedding. Many households ask us about prevention, so a free pest prevention survey comes with treatment. How many follow-ups are needed depends on how established the larvae are.
Warm, dark and undisturbed is ideal for larvae, particularly if wool blankets or clothes are stored there. Items should be checked and laundered, and the cupboard cleaned.
Lift a corner where it meets the skirting and look for silky webbing, small cases, shed skins or droppings. Bare patches under furniture are another clue. If unsure, we can inspect and identify.
They mostly target natural fibres such as wool, silk and fur, particularly if items are soiled or stored undisturbed.

On a post-war estate, pigeons find the flat roofs, balconies and walkway ledges. Making those spots unusable is what actually moves them on.
