Farmland and riverside land press close to Marnham's homes, bringing rodents and wasps. We deal with them and explain how to shut them out.
A rural spot in the Trent valley means pests arrive with the landscape. Rats come from riverside ground and field margins, mice from the barns and stores around, and wasps find quiet spaces in old roofs. In winter, warm buildings pull rodents indoors, and a cottage kitchen is as inviting as a barn. Pay attention to the door thresholds and the area where services enter the building, because those are the usual routes for mice and rats into a cottage or barn conversion.
A good first step is a walk around the outside, checking walls, doors and where pipes enter the building. We do that on each job, then treat and give a free prevention survey. If you have outbuildings or livestock feed, tell us. Secure storage often makes more difference than any product. On quiet roads with few neighbours, rodents have little disturbance, so a barn, garage or summer house can host them undisturbed for a long period.
The pests are similar, but the setting matters. Outbuildings, feed and open land make rodents more likely, so we check the whole site. Raise stored feed off the floor, use heavy lidded bins and keep grain, pet food and bird seed locked away; it is often the most useful change you can make.
Autumn and winter, when food outside is scarce and buildings are warm. Proofing before then helps considerably. In rural places, rodents are active all year, but food outside runs short in winter, so more try to enter buildings. Checks at the end of summer are worthwhile.
No. There are no call-out charges, and prices are fixed so you know what you are paying before we arrive.
A rural home is not out of reach. Bed bugs arrive in a suitcase, a second-hand bed or a worker's holdall, and the first week decides how far they spread.
Read the advice →Rural houses often have more to eat for these insects: sheepskin rugs, feather cushions, old taxidermy, loft nests. Working out which pest is chewing matters.
