Large gardens and mature planting around Wollaton Hall's deer park give rats cover close to homes. We survey, treat and advise on keeping them out.
Wollaton's tree-lined roads, mature gardens and proximity to the deer park mean there is a lot of ground cover and many places to nest. Larger detached properties often have outbuildings, garages, orchards and compost areas, each of which is a potential base. In inter-war semis, rats usually find their way through the airbricks or the gap where a pipe passes through a wall.
We walk the whole plot, not just the house. Ivy-covered walls, wood stores and long grass all get checked, since they can hide runs and burrows. Treatment is by baiting or trapping, selected to suit your garden and pets. As BPCA members and with fully insured staff, we also give advice on boundaries and storage.
Open green space gives rats more places to live and move through, so homes beside it can see more activity. That is no reflection on your housekeeping. Sound proofing and tidy food storage still reduce the chances.
We survey the whole plot and place bait or traps where activity is found, which may include outbuildings and boundaries. A larger area can take more time, but the survey is free and charges are fixed.
Rats come for food, water and shelter. Accessible waste, open drains, bird feed and gaps in buildings can all draw them in.

Large gardens and mature trees are lovely, but they bring wildlife closer to the house. This checklist is aimed at the roofs, sheds and gardens of leafy-suburb homes.
Read the advice →The vet treatment worked on the dog, yet the bites continued. In a carpeted semi, most of the flea population is not on the animal at all but in the house.
