Post-war estate homes often have long-fitted carpets and loft insulation, a good set-up for larvae if birds or insects have left remains nearby. We find the source.
The Broxtowe estate is a large area of post-war housing, much of it with fitted carpets that have been down for years. Larvae can thrive along the carpet edge where it meets the gripper rod, and in the dust beneath furniture. Another source on estates like this is a bird or wasp nest in a roof or eaves, where the leftover remains feed larvae that later wander downstairs.
We check carpets and cupboards, and where it makes sense, look at roof spaces and eaves. If the larvae are coming from remains in a loft, treating the carpet alone will not be enough, so we explain what needs doing in order to stop them coming back.
Old nests and dead insects in lofts and eaves can feed larvae, which then spread into rooms below. We look at accessible roof spaces as part of the inspection where it is relevant.
Not necessarily. Whether carpet needs replacing depends on how much damage there is and whether larvae are still in it. We can advise once we have looked at it.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.

On a post-war estate, pigeons find the flat roofs, balconies and walkway ledges. Making those spots unusable is what actually moves them on.
Read the advice →Post-war houses were not built with mice in mind, and they have plenty of small openings round pipes and extensions. Finding them is half the battle.
