Ilkeston is over the border in Derbyshire, but we cover it. Its Victorian terraces and later estates give carpet beetle larvae the same quiet corners as anywhere.
Though Ilkeston is in Derbyshire, in Erewash borough, it sits just west of Nottingham and falls within our area. The former mining and lace town has rows of Victorian terraces and many later estates. Terraces often have old carpets and lofts that run along the row, and the estates have fitted carpets that stay down for many years.
Whichever you have, we start with identification, then inspect edges, furniture and storage and treat where larvae are found. Many Ilkeston homes were once heated by open fires, and older chimneys, cupboards and attics can still hold dust and remains. We will check these places if they are part of the problem.
It is just across the county border and part of the area we serve. Call 0115 937 5117 to confirm a visit time for your address.
The treatment principles are the same, but in a terrace we think about shared lofts and floors, while on an estate we focus more on long-fitted carpets and loft access. The adult beetles are small and easily overlooked, so the larvae are usually the better clue.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.
