New carpets do not make a home immune. Adults fly in from outside and lay eggs where it is quiet. In Lindhurst we find the larvae and explain how they got in.
People often assume that a recently built home cannot have a fabric pest. In truth, new-build houses have wool-blend carpets, soft furnishings and wardrobes full of clothes, and adult beetles can arrive from gardens, on cut flowers or through open windows. Because rooms are often only lightly furnished, the damage may appear at the edges of a room or in a rarely used bedroom.
We identify the pest and treat affected areas. We also look at the way the house is used, such as boxes unpacked or not, loft space filled or empty, and windows open in summer. New-builds often have a loft hatch and sealed roof spaces, which makes a nest-related source less likely and narrows down where to look.
Adults can come in from outside or on items brought in, then lay eggs in quiet corners. The house does not have to be old or dirty for that to happen.
No. Treatment targets the carpets, edges and furnishings where larvae are found. We will tell you what to move or launder, and why.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.

Newly built does not mean moth-free. The holes in a cashmere scarf are made by tiny larvae, and they can arrive in a box from an older home you moved from.
