Retford's older streets and later housing both see carpet beetle damage. We search for the larvae where they actually feed, not just where the holes show.
Retford is a Bassetlaw market town on the Chesterfield Canal, with older town-centre buildings and later housing around it. Canal-side and older property can have cellars, stores and outbuildings holding blankets, rugs and furniture, all of which are easy for larvae to settle into. Newer estates see more of the usual problems, like a fitted carpet edge or wardrobe floor.
We confirm identification first, by damage and shed skins, then work through the building, including any connected outbuilding or store. Treatment goes where larvae are found. If you plan to store textiles over the coming months, we suggest cleaning them first and using sealed containers, which makes it harder for larvae to start.
Clean items first, then use sealed boxes or heavy bags with no gaps. Sealing uncleaned items traps larvae or eggs inside, so cleaning before storage is the important step. We can go through the details when you call.
Yes, where they connect to the problem. Sheds, garages and cellars storing fabrics can be sources, so we look at them during the visit. It is easy to get wrong without an inspection.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.
