In Stockhill's blend of older and post-war homes, carpet beetle damage is usually found late. A proper inspection finds where the larvae have actually been feeding.
Stockhill has older houses alongside post-war housing, and the pest behaves the same way in both: larvae feed on wool, hair, feathers and dust-laden fibre where they will not be disturbed. In practice that means under beds, inside sofas pushed against walls, and at the back of cupboards that are seldom emptied.
We work through those places in turn, noting shed skins and damaged fibres to confirm the pest. Treatment follows where larvae are found. If you have already tried a spray from a shop, tell us, because it can make the problem harder to read. We will explain what depends on what, rather than promise a result.
Sprays may kill some insects they touch, but larvae hide in fibre and edges where they are hard to reach. Finding the source matters more, which is why we inspect before treating.
Avoid heavy cleaning that disturbs shed skins, as they help us identify the pest. Bag any stored items you are worried about, and leave furniture where it is so we can see where the damage lies.
