Big Victorian rooms with good rugs and a lot of storage are exactly where carpet beetle larvae do quiet, costly damage. We check carefully and treat what we find.
The larger rooms and period features common in Carrington's villas often come with treasured wool rugs, curtains and upholstery. Larvae prefer undisturbed edges, so the damage tends to start underneath a rug or behind heavy drapes. By the time a hole appears on the visible side, larvae may have been feeding for a good while.
We turn rugs over, check skirting, boards and cupboard corners, and look for shed skins, which are the most reliable sign. Treatment is applied where larvae are found, and we advise on protecting valued textiles. For very valuable items, a specialist textile cleaner may also be worth consulting.

Larvae avoid light and disturbance, so they feed where the fibres are protected, often underneath or at the edges. The top of a rug can look fine while the underside has been badly chewed.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.
