Retford is a market town on the Chesterfield Canal, with older centre property and later housing. Cockroaches find warm shelter in both, and we treat them.
Older town-centre buildings can have cellars, back yards and kitchens extended in stages, leaving small gaps in between. A canalside town can also have damp lower rooms, which attract oriental cockroaches. Pubs, cafes and takeaways add stored food and busy bins, and the insects may move between buildings that share walls or drains. Noting the date and place of each sighting is more helpful than it sounds, and we will ask for it.
The later housing is simpler to survey: a kitchen, a boiler cupboard, a utility room. Everywhere, we identify the species, find the places they shelter and treat those and the routes between them. We pass on straightforward advice on damp, waste and sealing, and food businesses can have a free survey and written inspection report. Once the insects are dealt with, a few small changes to how food and waste are handled make a lasting difference.
Where we can. For food businesses we try to arrange visits at quieter times so service is not disturbed. Tell us your hours when you ring and we will agree a time. We can also advise on what to do if it returns later.
Fix any leaks, ventilate where possible, clear clutter and keep stored items off the floor. Damp suits cockroaches, so reducing it helps keep them away after treatment. Do not worry if you cannot answer every question, as we will find out on site.
They can arrive in deliveries, boxes or from neighbouring properties and settle where there is warmth, food and moisture.
