Victorian villas with cellars, roof voids and mature gardens give rats several ways in. We check every route and treat the problem at its source.
Large Victorian villas bring their own rat risks. Cellars, old coal stores, tall roof voids and generous gardens all offer space where a rat can nest unnoticed. Closer to Mansfield Road the terraces are tighter, with shared drains and walls. A householder may first notice a smell, scratching above a bedroom or a gnawed cable, long after the rats have settled in.
We start with a full survey, inside and out, and match the treatment to what we find, using baiting or trapping. Because many homes here are large and older, we give practical proofing advice for airbricks, pipe entries and roof edges. All visits come with free advice, and appointments can be arranged to suit your day.
Rats climb pipes, trellis, ivy and rough brickwork, and can enter at eaves or through damaged vents. Noises in the roof at night often point to this, though mice and squirrels can sound similar.
They can. Seed that falls to the ground is an easy food source, especially overnight. Use feeders with trays, sweep up regularly and avoid putting out more food than the birds will eat.
Rats come for food, water and shelter. Accessible waste, open drains, bird feed and gaps in buildings can all draw them in.
