Daybrook's Victorian and inter-war homes have cellars, lofts and old floors where larvae can feed unseen. We look in the places most people have not checked.
Daybrook, part of Arnold, mixes Victorian streets with inter-war housing. The older homes often keep original floorboards and a loft that has been used for storage for decades, while inter-war houses tend to have fitted carpets and built-in cupboards. Carpet beetle larvae find shelter in all of these.
Our approach is the same whichever you have. We confirm the pest by shed skins, damage pattern and live larvae, then inspect and treat edges, furnishings and storage. If you have recently had building work or a clear-out that disturbed old insulation or nests, tell us, as that can release food and larvae into living areas.
It can. Disturbing old nests, insulation or stored fabric may release larvae or move them downstairs. If you notice damage afterwards, mention the clear-out so we can inspect the right places.
Any time. Larvae feed indoors all year, though adults are most often seen in spring and summer. Inspection is useful whenever you notice damage or shed skins.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.
