Victorian and inter-war housing in Daybrook gives cockroaches both shared walls and warm kitchens. We find the harbourages and treat them carefully.
Daybrook has an older core of Victorian houses alongside inter-war streets, so the cockroach problems we see vary. The older houses have cellars, thick walls and long pipe runs, while the inter-war ones tend to have a compact kitchen, a back boiler or airing cupboard and a shared wall with the neighbours. Egg cases are a useful clue, because they are carried by the female and left in warm, sheltered corners.
