In a small minster town with older houses and farmland around, moth larvae can live in old cupboards, curtains and rugs long unseen.
Southwell is a small minster town with older property and farmland around it, and we often find that houses here hold a wealth of old fabrics: heavy curtains, rugs, upholstered chairs and chests of linen. These last for decades, which also makes them a reliable meal for moth larvae if no one inspects them.
We examine the likely spots, identify the moth and treat the affected textiles and carpets. We explain what can be washed, frozen or dry cleaned and what is better left to a specialist. Our work comes with free advice, and we offer appointments to suit you. How soon the problem clears depends on how long the larvae have been feeding.
We can inspect and advise, but delicate or valuable pieces may need specialist cleaning alongside our treatment. We explain the options on the day.
Look at the undersides of rugs and upholstery, the folds of curtains, and the backs of wardrobes for cases, webbing and droppings. These are the places larvae favour.
They mostly target natural fibres such as wool, silk and fur, particularly if items are soiled or stored undisturbed.
