Dense terraced streets let cockroaches pass between homes through walls and floors. Our Radford visits focus on finding the hiding places and the routes between them.
Rows of Victorian terraces share party walls, roof spaces and sometimes cellars, and that suits insects that want warmth and shelter. In a house like this, cockroaches rarely stay in one kitchen. They follow pipes and cracks from one home to the next, so a single treatment can fall short if the neighbouring house is the source. Egg cases are a useful clue, because they are carried by the female and left in warm, sheltered corners.
We start with an inspection to identify the species and locate where they rest by day, usually behind kitchen units, under sinks and around the boiler. Treatment is applied to those spots and the routes between them. We then talk through bin storage, spills and sealing gaps, so the home stops offering what they came for. Droppings look like small dark specks, and smears on walls near pipes can show where they travel.
Often the source is shared. Party walls, floor voids and pipe runs connect houses, so insects can return from next door. Sealing gaps and treating all affected homes at about the same time gives the better chance of clearing it, though it depends on the property.
Usually not. Cockroaches spread to wherever there is warmth and food, so we inspect the whole property, including utility areas and boiler spaces, and treat the places where activity is found rather than guessing from one sighting. We explain this on the day, in plain terms.
They can arrive in deliveries, boxes or from neighbouring properties and settle where there is warmth, food and moisture.
