In a Trent valley village, a house left shut for a few weeks can turn up carpet beetle damage on return. We find the larvae and deal with the cause.
North Muskham is a Trent valley village north of Newark, close to the A1, with older houses and newer infill. Many residents commute or travel, leaving rooms and wardrobes untouched for long stretches. That is how carpet beetle problems often develop: not through dirt, but through undisturbed fibre and a few weeks of peace.
After an inspection that looks at carpets, wardrobes, soft furnishings and lofts, we treat where larvae are present. If you are away often, we suggest simple routines: laundering woollens before storage, using sealed boxes, and asking someone to vacuum along edges occasionally. This is part of the free pest prevention survey that comes with treatment.
Clean woollens before storing them, use sealed boxes, and ask a neighbour or visitor to vacuum edges and quiet rooms occasionally. These steps reduce the quiet time larvae need.
Not directly. Carpet beetles rely on fibre, dust and undisturbed corners, not water. Gardens near the river may bring adult beetles to windows, which is the main link.
Both damage natural fibres, but they are different insects with different larvae, so correct identification matters for treatment.

You block the obvious holes and still hear scratching. Mice find the ones you did not know existed, and in a village house there are usually a few.
Read the advice →The older houses in a village often have cupboards that have not been emptied in years. Larvae love that. The damage appears slowly, then all at once.
